About Vinson Massif: Vinson Massif rises in the Sentinel Range of Antarctica, one of the most remote and difficult-to-reach places on the planet. Because Antarctica has no permanent population or single owning nation, reaching this peak requires an expensive, carefully planned expedition, making it one of the least-climbed of the Seven Summits. Named for a Congressman — It was named after U.S. Congressman Carl Vinson, who championed funding for American Antarctic exploration.
