About Utqiagvik: winter! Utqiagvik was once called Barrow but took back its Inupiaq name in 2016. When the sun sets in mid-November, it does not rise again until late January - about two months later. When the sun finally returns, it peeks up for only a few minutes, then climbs higher each day. Its Inupiaq name means 'place for gathering roots'
