This guide introduces all seven continents in a way that's perfect for kids ages 8–12 — a fun fact for each, and a free printable set of worksheets and activity books to explore every one.
What is a continent?
A continent is a very large area of land. Oceans and seas separate most of them. The seven continents, from largest to smallest, are Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe and Oceania.
Let's meet each one — and where you can explore it further.
The seven continents
Asia — the largest continent, home to more people than any other. Explore it in the Asia Edition.
Africa — the continent with the most countries (54). Discover it in the Africa Edition.
North America — stretching from the Arctic to the tropics. Travel through the North America Edition.
South America — home to the Amazon rainforest and the Andes mountains. Explore the South America Edition.
Antarctica — the coldest continent, with no countries at all — only research stations. Visit them in the Antarctica Edition.
Europe — small but packed with different countries and languages. Tour the Europe Edition.
Oceania — thousands of islands scattered across the Pacific Ocean. Set sail with the Oceania Edition.
A few fun continent facts
Asia is the biggest continent by far — it covers about a third of all the land on Earth. Antarctica is the coldest and windiest, and almost entirely covered in ice. Australia, in Oceania, is the smallest continent, and the only one that is also a single country.
Every continent has its own animals, landmarks and cultures — which is what makes exploring them so much fun.
How to keep exploring at home
Each continent has its own activity book — seven remarkable countries (or, for Antarctica, seven research stations) with facts, word searches and an Explorer Certificate. Start with any free worksheet, or explore the whole Geography collection.
A great challenge for young geographers: can you name all seven continents from memory, largest to smallest?
